Essential experience

  • Politically astute with significant experience of effective influencing and the development of policy advocacy, from the identification of objectives, targets and opportunities, through the delivery of a range of approaches to achieve change in public policy in England and Wales.

  • A very experienced ambassador and communicator, as effective and comfortable presenting on a panel or at a conference to meeting with Government Ministers, civil servants or Lloyds Banking Group senior stakeholders, to taking part in a charity sector working group or meeting with charity staff, volunteers and service users.

  • Able to craft and tell effective stories about who we are, what we do and why and to persuade others to join with us or to change, both through leading a multi-channel communications team and strong personal presentation and drafting skills, with the ability to present complex information in a clear and logical way.

  • Committed to the importance of data, analysis, evidence, evaluation and research and experienced in capturing and distilling the evidence from work on the ground by charities and in communities and translating this into messages and leverage to inform and influence national audiences.

  • Excellent experience in building a range of partnerships and collaborations formal and informal, leading in some, connecting different agendas and shaping the work of others behind the scenes. This includes bringing together funding sources for increased mutual benefit.

  • A supportive and effective manager, experienced in developing people and multi-disciplinary teams, leading cross organisational projects and contributing to the development of a “high-support, high-challenge” culture across the organisation.

 

Personal attributes

  • Dedicated to the continued and successful development of the Foundation and its values and strategic goals, with the skills and ability to work with Trustees and teams across the organisation, to lead and at times to challenge, where appropriate, whilst also committed to building consensus.

  • Dynamic, focused and flexible, with a can-do attitude and intellectual bandwidth to be able to change and adapt and to support and encourage those you lead to do likewise and to use resources efficiently and effectively.

  • Understanding that structural inequalities shape the issues we are seeking to address, you are committed to all aspects of EDI in who we are, what we do and how we work and to modelling inclusive leadership in your own practice.

Desirable experience

  • Knowledge and experience of the voluntary sector as an employee, Trustee, volunteer or service user, with an appreciation of the value and challenges facing small and local charities.

  • Knowledge of working in, and achieving, change within one or more of the identified influencing themes we are seeking to address and a network of relationships around that sector.

  • Knowledge of designing, developing and implementing funding processes to both encourage and support a range of practice and to meet identified objectives.
